What does Steady Steel do?
Steady Steel is a steel fabrication shop at 42 Wilstead Dr in Newmarket, Ontario, working across York Region and the Greater Toronto Area. Structural and miscellaneous steel, aluminum and stainless: designed, cut, welded and installed.
The usual work is lintels, stairs, railings, frames, dunnage, embeds and anchors, plus shop-welded assemblies and non-pressure attachments bolted to customer equipment. We build to your drawings, or draw it here first.
The shop also sells steel off the rack by the size, cut to length, for pickup in Newmarket or delivery across the region.
Where is the shop, and when is it open?
42 Wilstead Dr, Newmarket, Ontario L3Y 4T9. The shop runs Monday to Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Eastern time, and pickup is during those hours.

Do you take small jobs, or only large structural contracts?
Both. One bracket, one handrail, one plate cut to a shape — small work runs through the Newmarket shop the same way a structural package does, and the online tools are built for it: drop a DXF and a price comes back in seconds.
The one threshold worth knowing is delivery. Truck delivery carries a $100 minimum on the goods, before tax and before the delivery charge itself. Below that it is pickup at the shop or a courier.
Can I buy steel online in Canada and have it delivered?
Yes. Every size the shop carries is priced on the public materials list, and the store takes the order — pickup in Newmarket or delivery across York Region and the GTA.
Prices are per unit and before HST, which is 13% in Ontario. Material prices move with the mill, so a price on the site is the price today rather than a standing offer; a line added to a cart holds its price for 7 days.
Delivery is free within 25 km of the shop. From 25 km to 100 km it is $2.00 per kilometre on the distance over the first 25. Past 100 km an order goes by courier or is picked up at the shop.
What is the lead time on cut-to-length steel in York Region?
What is on the floor goes out the same day. What is not on the floor is a 2 day lead time: a day to order it and a day for it to land, because the service centres we buy from deliver next day into Newmarket.
Availability is printed against every size on the materials list, so you can see which of the two you are looking at before you order. Fabrication time is on top of that and depends on the job.
Can you work from my DXF? What file formats do you accept?
Yes. Drop a DXF on the quoter and a price comes back in seconds — material, cutting and bends, line by line. Pricing is free and needs no sign-in; buying does. A DXF for the quoter should be a single closed outline.
For a material list, drop the .xlsx, a CSV, a PDF, or a photograph of a handwritten list, and it is priced against the rack line by line. Anything the software cannot read confidently goes to a person who calls you back.
SteelForge, the browser-based 3D designer, exports DXF and STEP out of the same model. Every automated price is an estimate rather than a binding quote — an order is reviewed here before it is accepted.
What is CWB certification, and what does Steady Steel hold?
The Canadian Welding Bureau certifies fabrication shops in Canada to CSA W47.1 for steel and CSA W47.2 for aluminum. A certified shop welds to qualified procedures, with qualified welders, under CWB supervision, and is audited for it. For a buyer it is the difference between a shop that can prove how a weld was made and one that cannot.
Steady Steel holds CSA W47.1 Div 2 (valid to June 2027) and CSA W47.2 Div 2 (valid to April 2027). Those Letters of Validation and their expiry dates are published on this site and are the authoritative statement of what the shop holds.
Division 2 covers the welding. It does not include in-house weldment design engineering — where a weld or an assembly has to be engineered, that engineering is supplied by you or arranged as a separate scope.
Do you fabricate stainless and aluminum as well as mild steel?
All three — mild steel, stainless and aluminum. MIG, TIG and stick, at the bench and in the field.
All three are cut in the same Newmarket building: the CNC fiber laser takes sheet and plate on a 5 x 10 bed, the CNC plasma takes the heavier plate, and the automatic bandsaw cuts structural and bar to length. Bending and rolling are here too.
Can you install on site, or is it fabrication only?
Both. Work is welded up in the Newmarket shop and installed by our own crews, and we weld and repair in the field on equipment that cannot come off site.
Non-pressure attachments bolted to customer equipment are a regular part of the work.
What does structural steel fabrication cost in Ontario?
Material carries a published price; fabrication does not. Every size the Newmarket shop stocks is priced by the foot or by the square foot on the public materials list, before HST, and those prices move with the mill.
Fabrication is quoted per job, because the cost sits in the drawing: how many pieces, how much cutting and coping, how much weld, what finish, and whether it is installed. The quickest route to a number is to drop the DXF or the material list on the site, or to phone 416 560 9330 with the drawing in front of you.
A written quote is valid for 30 days from its date unless it says otherwise on its face.
Do you deliver to Toronto, Vaughan, Markham or Barrie?
Yes. The shop delivers out of Newmarket across York Region, the Greater Toronto Area and Simcoe County — Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Bradford, Georgina, Markham, Vaughan, Richmond Hill and Toronto among them.
Delivery is free within 25 km of the shop and $2.00 per kilometre from 25 km to 100 km, charged on the distance over the first 25. We do not truck past 100 km; those orders go by courier or are picked up.
Delivery windows — same day, 24 hour, 48 hour — run from acceptance of the order and depend on stock, shop load and weather. They are targets, and we tell you when one is going to be missed.
What is the difference between plasma and laser cutting for my part?
Thickness and edge. The CNC fiber laser cuts sheet and thinner plate on a 5 x 10 bed with a narrow kerf, a square edge and small features held tight — holes, slots, lettering. The CNC plasma takes the heavier plate the laser will not, with a wider kerf and a slightly bevelled edge that is fine for structural work and for anything welded or machined afterwards.
Both run in the same building in Newmarket, so a job needing some of each does not move between shops. Drop the DXF and it is priced for the process that suits the part.
Do I need an account to get a price?
No. Material prices are published for anyone to read, the DXF quoter prices a part with no sign-in, and the material-list parser prices a list with no sign-in.
Buying needs an account. Sign in with Google and the order carries on from where you were.
How do I pay, and do you offer terms?
Card at checkout, processed by Square — the shop never sees or stores the card number. Account customers approved for terms are invoiced Net 30 from the invoice date.
Every price on the site is in Canadian dollars and before HST. HST is 13% in Ontario and is added at checkout and on every invoice.
Can I return steel I ordered?
Only if it is defective, is not what you ordered, or is short against the order. Every other sale is final, and steel that has been cut, drilled, formed, welded or coated cannot go back in any case.
Check the order when it arrives and tell us within 48 hours of pickup or delivery if something is wrong. Where the fault is ours we repair, replace or refund.
Do you do the engineering, or only the fabrication?
Detailing and modelling happen here; sealed engineering does not. Parts are modelled in SolidWorks, checked with FEA where it matters, and drawn for the shop — shop drawings from your sketch or ours, carrying weld maps and piece marks.
What the shop does not hold is in-house weldment design engineering. Where a code requires a professional engineer to seal a design — a lifting attachment, a structural connection designed rather than detailed — that engineering is yours to supply, or a separate scope you engage us to arrange. We say so when we see it.
Who owns the drawings and files I upload?
You do. Uploading a DXF, a model, a spreadsheet or a photograph of a list gives the shop permission to use it to quote, program, fabricate and deliver your order, and to keep a copy for records and traceability. Nothing beyond that.
We do not sell customer files and we do not build from them for anybody else.
What is SteelForge?
SteelForge is this shop's browser-based 3D steel designer, free to use and open without an account. Place real AISC profiles, add welds, holes and copes, watch the price move as you build, and export DXF and STEP.
It exists because most of what comes through the door starts as a sketch. Drawing it in the tool means the shop and the customer are looking at the same model before any steel is cut.
How do I get a quote?
Quickest is to drop the file. A DXF goes on the quoter and prices in seconds; a material list — .xlsx, CSV, PDF or a photograph of the paper — prices against the rack line by line. Neither needs a sign-in.
