Steady Steel

Steel fabrication in Newmarket, Ontario

A CWB-certified shop for structural and miscellaneous steel, aluminum and stainless.

One laser-cut bracket or a million-dollar structural package: the same shop quotes both. A laser and a plasma table, a scanner and printers, a mill and a lathe, eight welding bays and a drafting room under one roof, and drawings that come back fast. High-mix work is the normal day.

Since 2018 · 42 Wilstead Dr, Newmarket ON L3Y 4T9 · Monday to Friday, 06:00 to 15:30 · 416 560 9330

CWB certification mark. Steady Steel is certified to CSA W47.1 and CSA W47.2 CWB Certified · CSA W47.1 Div 2 valid to Jun 2027 · CSA W47.2 Div 2 valid to Apr 2027

“I have worked very closely with Ken and his team over the last five years. His quality of work and in field welding repairs are top...”

Send us a job

Six ways in. Every one of them lands on a fabricator's desk.
  1. Drop a DXF

Cut parts priced on the spot. Pick material and thickness, see the price, buy.

  2. Send drawings or a sketch

PDF, DWG, STEP, or a photo of a hand sketch. A fabricator reads it and quotes it.

  3. Call the shop: 416 560 9330

Monday to Friday, 06:00 to 15:30. Answered on the shop floor.

  4. Order from the rack

Plate, bar, tube and angle cut to length, priced online, picked up or delivered.

  5. Design it in SteelForge

Free browser CAD for frames and plates. Export the DXF or STEP, or quote it from the model.

  6. Email the shop: orders@steadysteel.org

    Drawings, purchase orders and questions.

Pricing a DXF or a material list needs no account. Buying, and keeping quotes and drawings in one place, does: sign in with Google or an email address.

What happens next

  1. A person reads it. A fabricator, not a form. Questions about material, finish and quantity come back before the price does.
  2. A written quote. Price, lead time and what is included: material, cutting, welding, paint, delivery.
  3. Drawings when the job needs them. Shop drawings from SolidWorks or AutoCAD for approval, revised until they are signed off.
  4. Build, check, deliver. Fit-up and weld inspection in the shop; piece marks, weld maps and mill certificates with the job when specified. Delivered in York Region and the GTA, or picked up at 42 Wilstead Dr.

Have a material list?

Drop the spreadsheet, the PDF or a photo of the paper and get rack prices back line by line. Parsing and pricing are free and need no sign-in. Buying does: confirm each line we read, sign in, and it lands in your cart. Anything we cannot price off the rack goes to a person who calls you back.

No file handy? Email the list to ken@steadysteel.org.

Who runs it

Ken MacDermid, Red Seal ironworker, owns Steady Steel and has since 2018. On the floor most days, and the one who answers the phone. The crew is small enough that the person who quoted the job is on the shop floor while it is built.
